“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when YOU PRAY, go into your room, close the door and PRAY to your FATHER, who is unseen. Then your FATHER, who sees what is done in SECRET, will REWARD YOU. And when you pray, do not keep on BABBLING like PAGANS, for they think they will be heard because of their many WORDS. DO not be like them, for your FATHER knows what you NEED BEFORE YOU ASK HIM.
THIS IS HOW YOU SHOULD PRAY:
“OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN, HALLOWED BE YOUR NAME, YOUR KINGDOM COME, YOUR WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN. GIVE US TODAY OUR DAILY BREAD. FORGIVE OUR DEBTS, AS WE FORGIVE OUR DEBTORS. AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION, BUT DELIVER US FROM THE EVIL ONE.
For if you FORGIVE men when they sin against you, your HEAVENLY FATHER will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive YOUR SINS.
What is your understanding of privately and publicly praying?
After reading and really studying this passage I was thinking to myself that I can’t pray for people to see anymore, how silly was I. Constantly studying and seeking out Gods grace and mercies, my ability to discern between literally reading this and almost every other scripture were made clear (I’m STILL IN TRAINING). Jesus was drawing attention to the motives behind action. The point really wasn’t a choice between public and private prayer but between HEARTFELT and HYPOCRITICAL prayer.
When we are asked to pray publicly are we focused on addressing God or pleasing the people standing there?
It’s not wrong to come to God many times with the same request – Jesus encourages PERSISTENT prayer. BUT JESUS CONDEMNS the SHALLOW repetition of words that are not offered with a sincere heart. WE can never pray too much if our prayers are HONEST and SINCERE. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, before you pray, make sure you mean what you say.
The phrase “Our Father in Heaven” indicates that God is not only Majestic and Holy, but also Personal and Loving. We can honor God’s name by being careful to use it respectfully. If we use God’s name lightly, we aren’t remembering God’s holiness.
When we pray ” Your will be done” we are not resigning our self to faith, but praying that God’s perfect purpose will be accomplished in this wolds as well as in the next. This part of prayer allows us to offer ourselves as doers of God’s will, asking him to guide, lead, and give us the means for us to accomplish HIS purposes.
When we pray “Give us today our daily bread,” we are acknowledging that God is our sustainer and provider. If you think that you’re doing any of this by yourself you are sadly mistaken. Please people we MUST TRUST GOD DAILY to PROVIDE what HE knows we NEED.
God has a fantastic sense of humor, here is why I say so. God does not lead us into temptation, BUT sometimes HE allows us to be TESTED by them. I know that I’ve been in certain situations that were very odd but familiar just to see if I would make the same mistakes over and over again. The point of this test wasn’t for me to think that God is trying to punk me but for me to really PRAY and ask HIM to deliver me from these trying times and the most important thing deliverance from SATAN and his deceit.
We all struggle with temptations but sometimes it’s so SUBTLE that we don’t even realize what is happening to us. God has promised us that He won’t allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear.
ASK GOD TO HELP YOU RECOGNIZE TEMPTATION AND TO GIVE YOU STRENGTH TO OVERCOME IT AND CHOOSE GOD’S WAY INSTEAD.
GOD TEMPTS NO MAN!!
Have a Bless and Spirit filled Day!!
Remember No BABBLING. Instead JUST PRAY WITH A SINCERE HEART
